1970 Zenith Stereo consolemodel#A931

I was at a rummage sale recently and noticed they had an old Zenith console free for the hauling,so I decided to take it home!
It is 30 watts per channel and works fine with no noise from the switches or controls! The AM is excelent for day or night dxing compared to most AM radio's today! The FM is not that bad for recption either, but I've seen and heard better from Zenith in the past!
It has 2-10 inch woofers,2 exponential treble horns & 2-3 1/2 inch
tweeters. The cabinet is 26 1/2"high,42 3/4"wide and 18 3/4 " deep! I have the orignal owners manual as well as a Zenith Stereo catalog for 1970! The price back then new for this stereo was $290.00
plus tax! This was well taken care of and it shows inside and out!
There is 1 problem though I was hoping someone here could help me with.
At sometime during the mid 80's the needle needed replacing again on the 2G turntable(Deluxe version, not the standard or professional series.)and they was told by RAT Shack that the needle is no longer available and to take the old turntable out and replace it with a lab 1000 turntable with a built in pre amp!(They threw the 2G out) Without going the Ebay route I would love to find a 2G turntable to put back in the console so I don't have to use an aux switch box in order to hook up a cd player or tape deck! I have a Zenith Magnetic record changer that was built by Garrad that with very little modifing would fit properly and work ,but the power plug is diffrent from the orignal and I;m not sure I could wire it to the amp so it would work off the phono switch on the function selector. What do you think I should do? Leave well enough alone and use it as is or should I try and find a Deluxe 2G? Could I possiably wire my other turntable to the amp? I do have a phono pre amp that I could mount in the cabinet out of sight? Please no jokes about how bad consoles were or telling me to part it out ,I really want to keep and use this as a stereo the whole family can use, because my wife likes the looks of the cabinet and is simple to operate for both my wife and 7 year old daughter! Thanks!! I'll leave the vintage seperate componets for my use
and this unit for background music and the rest of the family!
