Hello, well, after a bit of time spent hunting parts and a few days of listening I can conclude which opamp sounds best when used in the output of my modified AA DDEv3/PS2
The burr brown OPA 627 by a clear margin. wider, deeper, less grainy and more full. The Lm6171 was too lean and a bit grainy, AD797 was pretty good but the OPA 627 was better. I am impressed by the difference over the stock OP176 that I probably wont really need to try other opamps suggested like AD825, and a whole host of others, whos numbers allude me at the minute. So, thanks to all for the info... and particularly to the gentleman who sent me some AD797 samples. If anyone would like to try the AD797 I would be happy to pass the samples on, I have 4 and they are the through hole mount 8-pin version
regards,
shane
