opamps: DIP, DMP, EMP8, SSOP8, SO-8? How to tell?

Hi. I'd like to replace some JRC opamps in my dvd/cd player. Specifically, they're NJM5532M and NJM4850E. I'd like to replace them with OPA2604's.

The datasheet for the 5532 shows three packages: the D version is dual sided with long leads; the M version (which I have) is dual sided, slightly shorter, and has very short leads; the L version is single sided. Elsewhere in the datasheet, the ratings refer to three versions: DIP8, DMP8, and SIP8. Am I correct to assume that the SIP8 is the single-sided package (single inline package), the DIP8 is the dual-sided package with long legs, and the DMP8 is the dual-sided package with very short legs (i.e., the M version that I have)? If so, is DMP8 known by other names? In other datasheets I've seen (for opamps), there are similar looking opamps, but with different names (e.g., SO-8).

The NJM4580 datasheet is even more confusing. It shows five packages, one of which is single-sided. I'll leave that one out. Of the dual-sided packages, the D version is as above (large and long legs), the E version (which I have) is medium sized and has short legs, the M version is slightly smaller and has short legs, and the V version is very small and has short legs. Leaving out the single-sided package, the packages elsewhere in the datasheet are listed as DIP8, DMP8, EMP8, and SSOP8.

Unfortunately, the package type is never listed next to the pictures or D/E/L/M/V suffix.

The datasheet for the OPA2604 shows pictures of two packages: one that's larger with long legs, another that's smaller with short legs. Elsewhere, it lists the 2604 packages as "8-pin plastic DIP" and "SO-8 Surface Mount". Yet elsewhere, it lists them as PDIP and SOIC! Am I correct that the larger chip with longer legs is the DIP8? and the smaller chip with very short legs is the SO-8?

In general, how does one determine whether one has a DIP8, DMP8, EMP8, SSOP8, or some other variant?

Finally, can anyone tell me which packages the NJM5532M and NJM4580E are, and which 2604 packages I should purchase for the swap? My guess is that I need the surface mount versions, since the 5532M and 4580E both have shorter legs. That then leads to the queston of whether the 5532M and 4580E are the same size as the SO-8.

Thanks much!
