Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

Hello!I'm using a matched quad of JJ 6L6GCs in my HH Scott 296-they sound great, lots of detail, clean; but compared to my 299C using 7591s I hear a bit of that "scooped out" mid-range I've read is typical of the 6L6.
The KT66 is just the european version of the 6L6GC, correct? Do they pretty much sound identical? What I'm wondering is if I can get back a bit of that mid-range by switching to KT66s or do I just have to trade-off a little loss of mid-range for the greater detail and clarity of the 6L6 family in general? Some folks locally have told me the KT66 will get back the sound I'm missing and others have told me I'll hear little if any difference between the two.
Any info would be very appreciated.
Best,
7591
