Harman Kardon PA2000 amp review

129.15.167.96

I wasn't able to find any information on this amplifier, so my solution was to purchase it and do a review myself. Since these amps are selling on a popular online auction for $200.00, which is $300 off the SMRP, I couldn't resist.

My biggest question was: Is the 100watt amps on the PA2000 better than the onboard amps on my HK 520. It didnt take long to answer this with a resounding, YES! I'm using the PA 2000 to push my front speakers, and the sound is just incredible. They are very warm sounding, like most HK amps, but that's where the comparison stops. I didnt realize how much I had been missing just using the onboard 75watt amps. The bass is much tighter, the music fuller and the sound stage has become incredibly 3-Dimensional. This Amp is a beast at 26 lbs, which with only two channels weighs more than most 5 channel budget receivers. If you know anything about equipment, you know that weight translates into power, with larger capacitors and heat sinks. I put in some Metallica and I can only describe the new sound on my paradigm mini-monitors as "angry and in your face." All this and the amp isnt even broken in yet.

If you have towers with two sets of speaker terminals, one set for highs the other for lows, you could easily bi-amp them using the HK's onboard amps for the highs and the PA2000 for the lows. I can only imagine how sweet this setup would sound.

The bottom line: If you have the HK 520 or the 320 get this amp as soon as possible or as soon as you want to hear the potential of your receiver.

Good luck
