Sony CDP-D500 Professional CD Player

62.158.85.69

This is my first post to the Digital Forum, my primary obsession being LP playback. (What a way to ingratiate myself to this forum...)

Anyway, my Harman Kardon CDP crapped out a while ago, and I finally got around to buying a replacement: A Sony CDP-D500, which is a 'professional' unit. I figure as such it should be mechanically sound (unlike the POS H-K) and ensure a few years of trouble-free playback.

I bought the player via ebay after doing a quick google search and seeing that appr. $450 for a like-new unit looks like a no-risk investment (i.e., if I don't like it, I will probably be able to resell it for at least that amount). I have not yet received the player, and this is where my actual question starts:

I have done a search of the archives of this forum as well as the google audio groups and the internet in general, but was not able to find a single review or opinions as to the sound quality of the player. In fact, the only review of any kind I was able to find is the one below. Not an 'audio' review.

So, does anyone here have an experience/opinion regarding the sound quality of the player? Or, for that matter, the player in general?

Thanks for your comments,

Thilo
