I've got an opportunity to purchase a TEAC VRDS 25 CD player, which I intend to use as a transport (and eventually upgrade for that purpose). However, it's not clear whether it's a 25 or a 25X and there is some question whether Teac indicated this on the machine itself.
The vendor quotes from the manual that it weighs 16.5 kg, which is the weight always given for the 25X, whereas one reviewer on AudioReview.com states his VRDS 25 weighs just 11 kg, which is quite a difference. Of course, he could just be estimating and be not very good at judging such things.
A review that the British mag HiFi Choice did on the 25X states it is "closely based" on the 25, but does not specify what the differences are. Other posters on the Net simply state that the 25X merely uses better-grade components in crucial areas, which would suggest that they'd both weigh the same.
Can anyone clarify the differences between the 25 and the 25X and/or tell me how to distinguish with certainty between the two? I'd be most grateful.
TIA,
