First of all, let us assume that the system and speakers are dead-center neutral. That is, it reveals recordings for what they are. The system neither adds nor subtracts from what's on the record. If you use Kimber 8TC, you'll lose edge definition. The upper bass to lower mid transition is warm, which interferes with transparency, punch, and power. I also feel that the 8TC, in addition to rounding things off, sucks some air and sparkle from the music. However, this is a very fogiving sonic signature, and if we have shrill or nasty sounding systems, the 8TC is often a good match.
Where the 8TC has that upper bass warmth, the XLO Ultra 6 has narrow band in the midbass which is pronounced. With some minimonitors, this is not a bad thing. But you have to be careful if you have a room node at this frequency. The Ultra 6 has a freer way with the music's movements, but its octave to octave transition is kind of slick. It's not as differentiated from top to bottom as, say, XLO's own Sig 2 or higher.
Kimber's 4TC kicks ass. It is, for its class, detailed, balanced, lively. Going to 8TC is always an expensive mistake. Versus the 4TC, the 8TC sounds like clogged arteries. It is much wiser to keep the 4TC, and work on other areas. If you want more of what the 4TC can do, try an Oyaide SWO-XXX outlet. If you want a closer perspective, more power, but less depth, go with the SWO-DX. If you like what the 4TC can do, but wish to put more emphasis on the harmonics, you just may fall in love with the SWO-GX.
Since you have Kimber 4TC, I hope you are also using their interconnects. The Timbre-0147 is, sonically, in the same vein as the 4TC. Since you are looking fo more warmth, try repositioning the speakers. If that doesn't work, Kimber's all-copper KS-1011 Select interconnect is the logical choice.
The 8TC is simply twice a 4TC. Likewise, the XLO Ultra 12 is simply double the Ultra 6. Similarly, I think the Ultra 12, with its more bass-heavy signature, is a step in the wrong direction. It is cloudier and slower. It's as if the music trips over itself.
