if SUVs and pickup trucks were a country, they'd be something like the 6th largest producer of greenhouse gasses, either just ahead of or just behind Great Britain. Can't remember which.
All the effort governments have put into oil conservation efforts are down the tubes thanks to SUVs and pickup trucks (and I should qualify--it's the use of pickup trucks as personal transportation instead of as work vehicles that's the culprit).
If we want to really be serious about fighting global warming, SUVs have to go (really, it's all motor vehicles, but especially SUVs). If we want to be serious about traffic safety, SUVs have to go.
Pickup trucks have to be used only as work vehicles and not as the modern day equivalent of the Olds Cutlass Supreme.
It should be government policy to make SUV and truck ownership prohibitively expensive (in the case of trucks, if needed for actual work, then no additional expense). Nobody has the right to own a car or even a specific type of car, at least not to operate any kind of car on public streets.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
