Some cars allow you to defeat that feature - Toyota is one of them.
Not a fan of cars you can easily repair - one of the reasons I am looking long and hard at the Mazda Miata - It's always a top ten car for reliability manual or automatic even with the Rmotorized retractable roof model.
I think it's a good idea to talk to a lot of independent mechanics for their thoughts - there are some youtube videos where mechanics discuss the best/worst engines and transmissions over the years.
Reviews of the Crown suggest it will be similarly priced to the Avalon (40k-$46k Canadian).
I made an error in my first post - I said Hong Kong uses Crowns as Taxis but it is actually the Toyota Comfort
And now the new Toyota Comfort Hybrid, which looks like Red British Taxis, is wheelchair accessible for the aging population.
Sort of like being driven in a big lightbulb.
I wish I could import cars from other markets - the taxis seem to be built more rugged and without the dopey features and complexity no one actually uses.
It's like Church model on the AVRs - you'd try it once for 2 minutes and say - well that's cool - and then for the next 10 years you'd never use it.
