RE: Yeah sure: right-side driver, crazy repair costs, and not even leather

Nah - the Wool will hold up far better than leather - as is clear from the video - and the parts are still Toyota prices - reasonable.

t will be far FAR cheaper to repair than any German car or Rolls. That's kind of the point - Toyota reliability with a luxury car vs German rolling money pits where a break job will be $2000+ and their brakes are very badly designed so they wear out 4 times faster. My friend - has a Mercedes SUV - needed new brakes after 30,000 KM driving for leisure on Vancouver Island ($2,400) - my Honda Civic had 90,000KM in stop and go traffic (automatic) in Port Coquitlam to Vancouver and the dealer said I still had 20% left.

What you do not get with Toyota however is any sense of performance or "fun to drive" factor. So I sort of like what he did - he got this Century for luxury and the Miata for fun. Interestingly the Miata has been one of the most reliable cars ever produced of any type - and given people drive them very hard out on the track that is pretty amazing to me. It has ranked number 1 most reliable car of any type several times and it's always in the top 10. And it gets 35mpg and many owners who drive Porsche noted they actually prefer driving the Miata (it's much slower but apparently more fun) and besides - back in the 1980s there was a running joke that Porsche owners tended to be Yuppy douchebags. All the ones I have met sure fit the stereotype.

I would add something - the problem with owning any nice car is that some ass will come along and key it or worse steal it. If I were to go with a luxury car it might be better to get one that is under the radar than ostentatious like a Rolls. I am not sure if Mercedes is viewed as high-end anymore - not in Hong Kong - Rolex is a midrange watch in Hong Kong. Maybe slightly above midrange with Tudor being midrange.

Personally, I am probably sticking with Japanese - Toyota/Mazda who still offer automatic transmissions and non-CVT options. Kia does not offer the long warranty to Canadians that they offer to Americans - in America, they have 10 year 100,000-mile powertrain but in Canada the standard 5-year 100,000KM(not mile) warranty. I also didn't like my Kia that glitched out and the brakes failed while driving down the road. Umm, no thanks.

This is a fun one they drag-raced the Toyota Century, Rolls Royce Phantom and Mercedes Maybach. Which I find humourous because no one buys these things to drag race.
