We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
That is our most fundamental and important core belief. We shouldn't judge people based on their nationality, because we believe in individuals.
Throughout the Cold War, we took in Russians. It didn't matter whether they were dissidents, ideologues, refugees, or just people looking for a better life. Every one of them left out of self-interest. We took them in, and we're a stronger country because of it. We should take them now. It's been our tradition from the beginning, it's literally how this country came to be.
Even though we don't live up to our ideals all the time, we can't just walk away from them, because then we're just another shithole on a map.
