Overall I have but ONE contra-point.
Better armies frequently beat more numerous foes in ages past.
Alexander The Great? Or even when the Spartans, whose army were the Hoplites....The semi-mythical 300 of Sparta, held off a VASTLY superior-in-numbers foe by means of superior location for defense and a no-prisoners attitude.
Romans improved organization and technology. I suspect THEY would prevail even with a 3:1 disadvantage in numbers. This against the Hoplite style of organization.
Napoleon's Grand Army was maybe 600K men at arms at its peak. Bonnie was quick, knowledgeable and had a well trained group at his heels. He chose his ground to good effect.
Today? The Russians have NONE of that going for them, still fighting the advanced version of the 2nd World War. To that, I must agree. More deaths without meaning. Maybe somebody in Russia will Nut-Up and do the right thing......vis a vis Pukin.....
Too much is never enough
