In Reply to: So "wealth" has a "limit"--or otherwise "defined" quantity?... posted by dark_dave56 on October 13, 2021 at 05:55:04:
the top few percentile, over the past 40 years, has exploded. The wealthy have undue political influence, creating loopholes in many instances for individuals. Corporations actually pay FAR less than the rates which are what conservatives like to point to.
More and more wealth and power, less lower-and-middle class power and resources.
I'll also leave it to you to explain this "coincidence" that has been constant for 40 years.
Government's goal should be to provide as much a level-playing field as possible. When a ruling class is established, nepotism and the good old boy network indeed greatly reduce the amount of possible "boot-strapping" for more skilled and deserving pretenders.
You want laissez-faire? Human history is one long story of the powerful enslaving the masses. Capitalism, unless it is strongly altered, leads to the situation in the 19th and early 20th centuries--- children working 16 hour days, human beings living in fetid slums. Guys like you said, "It's God's will."
And, for the record, I never stated there should be an absolute limit to wealth: it should be taxed as fairly (no loopholes or off-shore shenanigans) as regular workers' incomes. If workers are doing without basic human needs, i.e. health care, affordable housing, daycare (so they can go to the jobs that create the wealth for suits), then yeah, the guys who pimp off real workers need to pony up more.
