I just use a Mac, and it runs Windows when I need it to.....

Dual boot will let you run Windows on Mac bare metal natively.... but you have to partition a dedicated slice of your HDD or SSD for Windows.... and you have to boot one or the other, macOS -or- Windows.

Virtualization products from Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion will allow you to run w/o dedicating a partitioned off slice of your Disk, and you don't have to boot one or the other. Both macOS and Windows run at the same time side by side or in full-screen mode. Additionally, the two OS's can share files via drag n drop.

I run Windows 10 now and then on my Mac for some applications that are only available on Windows, and the Windows drivers even work correctly. I have some software for programming my HAM Radios, Radon Datalogger, Temperature/Humidity Datalogger, etc that are Windows only. If I need to run these, I just fire up Windows 10 on my Mac with Parallels Desktop.

Old Parallels Desktop with a variety of virtual machines that I installed to run on my Mac:

Just click on the OS I want to run and it launches on the Mac.

BTW, the performance hit is minimal if anything with modern Macs. In fact, Windows 10 boots up faster on my Mac in a virtual machine than it does natively on many PC's.
