Of course the wealthy should pay more: they benefit the most.

How did they get that rich? Tax laws that benefit the investment class over the working stiffs. Loopholes that exempt generational transfers.

History already has answered the question of what happens to wealth: it accumulates more and more, leaving less-and-less for everyone else.

The real question is what you think a collection of individuals, i.e. a country, is all about. Is it to develop a system allowing for unlimited wealth or is it to allow all to have equal opportunity to lead meaningful lives? Society places many limits on citizens and setting limits on wealth are democratic: the wealthy have FAR greater powers than the average citizen. That, obviously, is not equitable.

Is it in a society's best interest to have super wealthy inheritors? I certainly don't see many making any sort of great commitment to anything but their own selves.
