From what the engineer tells me, they pulled the Crown receiver and added an Armstrong (?) receiver (Italian-made, I am told).Receiving the main transmitter signal on 89.9 in the area of the translator site is very difficult, at best, on the car radio. Their receiving antenna is up pretty high, but still pulling in a signal to retransmit from 60 or so miles away.
When I complained about the bed of hiss, the engineer said to turn my treble control all the way down. I explained that my system didn't have a treble control (Yamaha tuner>> Odyssey Etesian pre-amp>> Odyssey Khartago amp) and they suggested I upgrade!
(Interestingly, the 89.9 signal is also relayed via a local university eight or so hours a day and the relay sounds like it's coming through a wind tunnel. Otherwise, the college station sounds great.)
Ideas?
