Actually, getting them 'up high' is pretty easy. Most cheapy rabbit ear sets have a little plastic plug that inserts into a hole in the TV. Find an old halogen floor lamp, take off the lamp portion, insert a dowel that reaches almost to the ceiling, and mount the rabbit ears on top. It is not the same thing as a big yagi but not everyone can have a big yagi. The best thing about rabbit ears is that you can make them smaller which is a good thing if you want to reject weak nearby stations or multipath. They really are pretty handy and there are a bunch of sites that give you a way to calculate the exact length of the 'ears' to tune them to a specific frequency. The first poster didn't sound like he wanted to become a DXer but he might when he sees how well rabbit ears work. He might also look for a BIC Beam Box which I've found are pretty good and much better than non directionals.
