In response to general inquiries along the lines of this thread:>>Dear (cdb)
This is a very good point; first we keep a very reduced voltage on the plate when the power switch is turned off. As you know, light bulbs burn out when you turn them on or off, turning on a tube creates the highest stress unless you have a special low ramp circuit to bring the tube up which is what we do on the MD 109.
The expected life of the tube is 8-10 years with 40 hrs of use a week.
If you would like a power switch on the back of the unit no problem, please make sure you inform the person when you purchase the unit.
We do not have a problem with people questioning our design theories, this helps us grow. If there is anything else we can do to help us earn your business, please let us know.
Best Regards <<Nice. Casually mentioning a request for a custom mod on a production unit as "no problem" is impressive (unless it doubles the retail price!) Also an open mind towards questioning design decisions is refreshing. I could name a certain speaker manufacturer...well, never mind.
Unanswered obviously, is how you get 40 hrs a week use. Unless he means with the power switch "On" 40 hrs. Can't complain about 8-10yrs of life. The 6DJ8 is a tuff little tube.
Now, if they had 10 presets on the remote...
