The buffer/low gain linestage is a fine thing. One way is with a pentode cathode follower. Something really high gm. 12BY7 ought to do it...12GN7 would plug in and has ~3x the useable gm. CCS the load, put a medium sized negative rail underneath. Say 200V B+, -80, and a 20 mA CCS and a 5-10 uF coupling cap. Shunt reg the screen supply. Gain will be nearly one and output z dominated by the 'one over jay-omega-see' impedance of the couling cap. At miband it will be less than a hundred ohms...and input capacitance will be quite low from the screen in the pentode. Going to have to try that one...
