Re: The guys that have tried the XM46

Hi ,
Ribbon tweeters usually need a series cap for protection , I'd guess a parafeed setup would be ok though . Did you push your ear up to the drivers with the music off to check for noise ? You should find that at domestic levels a compression driver can easily handle a 1st order network , high order crossovers , to me , really do mangle the sound . If you consider a small format comp driver that is intended for PA usage with a 2nd order network , that it will easily handle a watt or so with first order . If I'm wrong about this then I'm taking a very expensive risk with the Tad TD4001 I'm currently running . I'm not that experienced , I gave up on my dedicated comp driver amp , just couldn't get it quiet enough for my liking . Never really tried open baffles extensively , had some Philips 800 ohm drivers I used for about a week before receiving an offer I couldn't really refuse ;) Have occasionally tried Jordan JX92 VTL with the back off with a series resistor and cardboard 'wings' added . Surprising the amount of bass . Trouble is I just don't have the space for an OB setup .

cheers
