Seeds taste nasty anyway... ;p
No really it sounds like the balance potentiometer (pot) is dirty.
You an not use a q-tip and alcohol. Use a good electrical contact cleaner, preferably one that leaves a little lubricant behind. These can be found a any decent electronics distributer, and should come with a little plastic tube to put on the can to reach into small openings.
I do not know that exact model so I will be general. If it is a slider type balance control then you might be able to get to it from the front, Try to get the little tube inside the control and give it a squirt.
If it is a rotating knob then you will have to open up the unit and and the control. It may be one or two stacked potentiometer. There should be a little opening on the side that has the leads, (probably the side that is soldered to the board) stick the tube in and give a squirt. Might as well hit them all while you are in there.
Either way after squirting each pot or slider you need to turn or slide them back and forth a few times to clean them.
