the star is a common ground to eliminate transient voltages on the ground path, without it the voltage on the ground path can vary along the path. my advice if you want the cleanest ground is to use seperate power rails from the main filters for all of the digital circuits and use a seperate path to a large common ground point for the analog circuits trying to keep the ground traces close to the same length, the large ground pad actually helps to prevent transients due to high currents by providing a larger conducting area.as for the 10 ohm resistor, it would only make the input signal appear slightly weaker to any amplifier stages, and slightly weaker to anything connected to the output, effeclively like adding 10 ohms to each cable connected to that device.
