Hi there,I brought a Crimson power amp from Germany to the US, got me a voltage converter (3000 W output) and connected it along with a Crimson pre amp and a Rega CDP, which came from Germany as well.
Everything worked like a charm, until I was changing the position of the components, and changed cables a little hastily.
After switching everything back on, the left channel produced no sound, only an ugly 'humm' . I don't want to go into detail, but I definitely isolated the problem to a malfunction of the left channel of the power amp. It occurs without anything connected to it, and even when plugging the amp directly into the wall socket without using the converter.
It's not a speaker or speaker cable issue, I made sure of that.Crimsons are infamous for requiring a long time to power down completely, and don't appreciate disconnecting cables too early, so I figured I had blown a channel.
Back to Germany I took the amplifier, plugged it in for a final test before sending it to Crimson for repair, and everything was fine ! No humm, no noise, distorsion free sound from both channels....
Today I returned to the US, plugged in my supposedly cured amp... guess what, the trouble is back... no sound, just that humm coming from the left channel....right channel is fine.
Some specs: the Crimson 620 power amp is rated 220V / 50 Hz , I use it w/out a grounding adapter for the power cord .
I'd greatly appreciate any help,Best
Horst
