Getting carried away...

Even when you have what appears to be a decent impedence match, which you do (200 ohms looking up to 10k-ohms), you can still have problems. Some tube preamps require that the coupling capacitors on the input of the amp be at least a specific value, or you end up losing all the bass, and maybe some of the lower midrange as well.

Short of having the expertise to look at schematics and figure it out, the easiest solution is to talk to the manufacturers involved to learn *all* the rules you need to know in order to mate their products properly. My biggest surprise was with the VTL Super Deluxe preamp, which has a 30-ohm output impedence, but sounded rotten into Muse monoblocks. Changing the coupling caps on the outputs of the VTL did the trick nicely. (We would probably have done better to change the coupling caps on the inputs of the Muse, but the VTL stuff has lots of room inside and is easy to work with, so that's what we did.)
