Thanks for the heads up. The el12 is highly priced to day but the EL36 with a pip anode in according to the Vade Mecum electrically the same and much cheaper. I guess you are going to doubt that?
I did distortion check on the EL38 and the EL36. EL 36 curves used were from Vade Mecum labelled EL12 and 2nd at only 2 watts is 6.7 whereas EL 38 at 3.7 watts is 5.9. 3rd and 4th are not significant in either tube.
I cant really stretch to EL12 over �100 each. But I'll try the EL36 and see what I think. Might take some time. At two watts though its not sufficient for me. But curious. Maybe a PPoutput stage for 4 watts if as SE it shines brighter than the EL38. The extra mu of 18 rather than 14 is handy for a sukuma style. At the moment Ive decided to Sukuma the EL38 as the mu of 14 is sufficient.
