Re: Reply to Astrostar59 AN set/AN speakers

I am very happy with the OTO SE/ J-Spe combination. I think AN is onto the right path of looking at the complete audio chain. In a way Audio Note is far better able to play off the strengths and weakness of individual componants when building a "level 2" system. The speaker has slightly extra bass here then the amp with a lighter tough in that frequency band can make it fit perfectly -- while the usual crapshoot buy a well reviewed amp from a magazine could make the speaker sound overbearing.

AN gear stands on its own well but almost always works best with its own stuff. Probably always but granted personal taste factors in. After all some people prefer the 300B Meishu but a number of people (who can afford both which is important to note) prefer the OTO and the EL84. I like both...I find the OTO the better deal in that if I were to upgrade I would go the separates route.

The way I treat Audio Gear though is that once bought it is "gone money," so I probably would not trade it in or sell it to upgrade -- I will probably keep my set-up forever as system number two and when I get out from the student loans I will be aiming for a full tilt frontline Audio Note set-up.

I hope to get into level 3. I want to try the 211 tubes as I've never heard one. I think it is Bob Neil who prefers them to the 300B. Still the 300b Meishu has a great deal of musical appeal -- some probably argue it is less accurate or mushier but on the vast array of music even if this is correct assessment -- it sure isn't a bad thing.
