"It's confusing!!! Seems more of art than science"

Maybe, but it's even more a matter of taste. Does everyone prefer the same concert hall, or the same seat in a given hall? No, and the sound in different halls and different seats can vary considerably. Not everyone likes the same music, and the sort of presentation someone may prefer for rock is likely to be different to what someone who likes small group jazz, and that can differ to what someone who likes classical music prefers.

Different people with different likes as far as the presentation of sound goes listening to different sorts of music in different rooms. Even if they're all using Magnepans, do you really think that they will all prefer the same result?

Science tells us how sound will behave in a room, and what effect different acoustic treatments will have. It doesn't tell us what a particular individual will like, and different individuals like different things. The art is in using the science of acoustics to alter what happens in a room in a way that achieves the sort of result that the owner likes.

There is no "one treatment suits all" strategy when it comes to dealing with room acoustics, just as there are no "one sort of music suits all" or "one choice of speaker suits all" choices. If you want to be happy with room treatment results, you have to find the treatment strategy that suits your tastes.
