My room measures approx 12 X 22 with speakers well out into the middle of the room firing down the length of the room. This was pretty much a dedicated listening room until recently when it also became a home gym of sorts. Because of the addition of a treadmill, I have had to remove the couch and the oversized stuffed chairs, leaving only a treadmill, a couple of exercise balls, and two steel framed chairs. The room is carpeted wall to wall. There is no window coverings, as the only window is located behind and well above the listening position (basement). The walls are pretty much bare except for a large oil on canvas painting on the wall behind the speakers. I have a built in CD shelf at the first reflection point on one side, and placed a small sofa table on the opposite first reflection point.I get a quick sharp metallic sound when I clap my hands, and contribute this to poor dampening/lack of absorbtion. The frequency response of my speakers is 44Hz~21kHz so I wasn't planning on adding bass traps. Is this wrong? I did however plan to build 6 2'x4' 2" fibreglass panels to use as sound absorbers. Should these all be placed in front of the speakers, or should some be placed on the side walls behind the speakers as well? Any help on where to place these or how best to dress my room for optimum acoustics would be appreciated.
Thanks
