Diffusion questions

In general, if I wanted to install some ceiling diffusion panels, should they also be in the same plane as the 1st reflection points on the walls? Also, are they needed only above the speaker locations or across the width of the ceiling?
I have Magnepans for fronts and also the wall mounted Magnepans for surrounds. Any recommendations for absorption/diffusion behind the wall mounted MC1 surrounds?
