Sure. I have a fireplace in the center of my rear wall, with a MiniTrap laying on its side in front of the opening. The large cavity behind the trap lets it absorb more than the other traps that are floating only four inches in front of the rear wall. And being at the wall-floor corner junction helps a lot too.
We don't make traps in custom sizes, but if your fireplace is larger than 2 by 4 feet maybe a MondoTrap will fit better. Though even if a trap doesn't totally cover the opening, you still get a big benefit.
