Re: newbie ...floor length vertical blinds behind speakers

I've seen extremes on this topic (I have the same problem, although I'm working on a dedicated music system now).

Some try to hide the tv in a permanent wall (expensive), others have tried putting acoustic foam all over the RPTV (aesthetically unpleasing), and others simply play around with speaker placement.

You're already ahead of the game if your speakers are in front of the tv. Less corner diffraction of the higher frequency (i.e. direct radiated) sounds. However, the bass frequencies will be coupled to the floor/tv/back wall, so the presense of the tv will introduce anomolies. Treating just the sides of the TV may be an option, or diffusing panels between the tv and speakers.

With the TV there, problems will always exist. It's even worse for me b/c I have Magnapans (dipoles) and even the high frequencies get bounced off the tv. Right now, I have a hanging plant and ficus tree diffusing some of the rear waves and those have helped a lot. Honestly, though, I'm not sure if they'd work with non dipoles.

good luck,
ac
