Full sphere 3D Panorambio setup by Robin Miller (filmaker.com)
8 speaker ambisonic setup to create the 3D ambient filed combined with 2 channel transaural stereo to sharpen the front stage plus stereo sub. He uses his own mic setup to make 6 channel recordings to decode to 10.2, but can synthesize the missing channels quite convincingly from standard stereo or mono using real hall 3D impulse responses.
Nothing comes close.
Did I mention gear does not really matter when the reproduction is half correct psychoacoustically?
