Doing this, I came to understand that except for large and obvious effects, DBT is, in fact, unreliable, for some very sound, OBJECTIVE--not just scientific but downright mathematical--reasons. So in the situations where they might be most useful, they are in fact more or less useless because they provide an unreasonably strict test, a criterion that's harder to meet than it ought to be.

If that's what you all came to understand, then you haven't read much of the professional or scientific literature.

DBT's and their various variations are the only USEFUL test around, and that's as close to a fact as anything gets in science.

Now, yes, they are hard to do, hard to execute, and hard to get right.

That doesn't mean that anything else works better, it just means that getting good, accurate, sensitive results is a hard thing to do.
