Shure sr105 amp

Ive aquired a nice cond pair of sr105 pa amps. These have switchable 70 volt outputs. In normal mode the input sensitivity is rated at 1.4 volts fpr full rated output into 4 ohms +. I run a tape recorder output into it and a 8 ohm speaker on the outputs. I get a VERY small tweeter type of output. Pry couple of milliwatts. I want to use it to ampifiy music, What the heck Am I doing wrong??
