"I am thinking of buying a system for personal use at home. And am thinking if it is a good idea to buy pro speakers. Is it overkill? Will it sound good when listening to it 20 feet away? I have a dedicated music room of 22ft x 30ft. I am looking at the following products. PLs. advise if i am in the right direction. I find pro equipment a lot cheaper than Home audio stuff for the same Watts/Power:
1 pair 18" Sub
1 pair 12" Full Range Horn
2 units Crown XLS-602
1 unit Home Pre-Amp "

Myself, that is the direction I would go in. Be careful though, as you could go very wrong fast.

--first, what type of spl are you after? Then:

what is your budget, and would you consider buying used? There are ways of finding good pro gear.

do your research, and possibly rent the gear you really are interested in , so you will *know* if you like it.

what kind of music do you like also plays a role as well as the type of sound you like. Audiophile most likely don't like alot of pro gear, but that is a different story.

What is the output Voltage on your preamp?

Your room is a good size, but you have to stay with a 60x40 or 90x40 horn. 40x20 would not be the best idea.

once the above are all determined, I am sure a few here will give recommendations.

Ebay always has pro gear used, as well as soundbroker.
