metal vs. plastic reels

Quantegy suddenly closed their factory ealier this month.
There goes the last maker of analog reel tapes.
Most of the stock at the large suppliers were gone by the time I heard about it. I managed to get 50 reels of 456, but they were pancakes.
Now, I need to get some empty reels. Does anyone have any experience with plastic reels vs. metal reels?
I will still be using metal reels for recording, but will use plastic for storage and non-critical listening.
