Thanks Rosco. Jim Merod's review of the THE small diaphram was maybe the most compelling and credible mic review I've read to date (and I've been reading a lot lately). Glowing comparisons to dpa and scheops. THE may be the answer I'm looking for. I think the 33 mm will be too big (maybe too much proximity effect) - so the 25mm looks like an all around winner.I spent an hour on the phone with Gene Lawson yesterday. Nice guy. He also has a compelling story. I love the continuously variable pattern in the L47.
Since I've asked the question, I've also looked in Brauner, Soundeluxe, Gefell, .. to name a few. .. and after all this reading and auditioning several Blue mics I guess that's the consensus - they are one trick pony's - but they each do their trick very well. Seems like there's a glut of x47 wannabees out there. Easy to see why, however. ted.
