Set your tone controls flat first on each channelIf you have an individual slider with a mic in that channel
and its only at 2 out of 10 you should pad your input down
on the channel and run the slider at least three quarters of
the way ... like 7 with the scale you gave
(unless your running a mackie which the sliders indent at mid point)
Also your output sliders set should be so your peaking -10db to 0dbAjust your input gains on your amps according to the output
you want
If you put your head near your FOH cabs and here op amp hiss
turn your input gains on your amp down until the hiss is gone
and its quiet.Bills idea of a feedback eliminator is a good one..
However to many people set them wrong and the p.a. sounds like crap
(typically sounding like the horns are stuffed with a sock)Your gonna need a filter of some sort one way or the other
to stop feedback problems
If you have a compressor with gates inserted on a channel you
can use the gate to close the mic signal when there is no
input into it. This tends to give you less chance of feedback
oscillation occuring because the mic signal shuts down quickly
Gates are really nice if set right...especially for drumsIf you dont have experience with getting your gain structure right
then you need to find someone to make sure all your outboard
units are set at unity gain. (in the signal path to FOH)
