I just purchased the Sennheiser E-935 mic for my studio. It's a Dynamic. I put it up against the EV RE-20 and though not as flat (only a slight rise in the mid region) I have yet to do some serious production with it but I'm very pleased with it. The price was $150.00Of course if You could find an RE-20 or MD421 in your budget. Grab it.
Another good mic which is a condenser for the money is the CAD E100 series 2. But since you are looking for something with it's own supply. I would lean more toward a good flat Dynamic.
