Thanks. I'm pretty darn sure I have USB 2.0, but for $12 I could definitely try the USB 2.0 card route. I still, however, don't think that will solve the problem of the low level line outs that I've had with the various devices I have owned. Ground hum or not, a line out should sound like a line out and not some faint signal that requires the volume to be turned most of the way up (and thus, the noise floor).
