good A-D ?

Pro studio recording equipment and music production/industry.

Im looking for a really good A-D convertor, hopefully something that can upsample to 96/24 or 192/24, seems like all the pro solutions i have found, are just black boxes, that dont even offer s/n ratings, or specifics on the dacs that they use.
budget of 4-600, so not enough for like a DCS or something, but is there a less fancy solution out there?
We have a digi-002 but once again there are no real specs on what kind of quality is there going from a-d....
i would consider DIY as well. so long as its not SMD, dont have a setup right now to do smd.
