Alesis supports Sony cd-rw and now Lite-on. The OS
is downloadable from there website. Get the latest,
and sorry but you'll probably need to purchase one of
the supported drives in order to record ( read the release
notes for supported drives ).As far as playback goes, you're better off moving
tracks to the Hard Disk and playing them from there.
I pass the digital out to an outboard DAC and it sounds
great!The error correction on the cd-rom drives is not up to par
with that of standalone cd players. Don't know if that is
because of the suppported cd-roms or if it is built in to the
OS ( and lacking ). In either case I have seen glithes in the
playback of certain disks on the Alesis where my other players
have no problems at all. Use the HD features.
