Portable PCM flash recorders: Edirol R-1 vs. M-Audio MicroTrack

I'm in the market for a portable PCM flash recorder for sound effects gathering purposes and I can't decide between the Edirol R-1 and the M-Audio MicroTrack. So far, it seems to break down like this:

R-1: built-in electret mics, 24/44.1 resolution, questionable level control and metering, 1/8" input only, no phantom, utilitarian design, takes AA batteries, reputedly sounds good

MicroTrack: no internal mics (external stereo electret included), 24/96 res, better level control and metering, 1/8", TRS and RCA inputs, phantom, ugly case design that makes it look like a child's toy, internal lithium battery, and most importantly, I haven't been able to find any opinions about how the damn thing sounds

Of course, what I really want is one of these sweet babies, but the price is through the roof and it's only out in Sweden.

So... advice?
