Hi newguy123,
The Touch is a really cool piece of hardware. It does allow you to play music from an attached hard drive. Connecting a hard drive directly to the Touch does cause sonic penalties. The Touch does sound good when you use it in this fashion but it sounds much better if you use Logitech's "Squeeze Server" software that runs on your computer.
When I first got a Touch I connected a 500gb USB drive to it and was happy for a while. After comparing the Touch to my Analogue rig it sounded very one dimensional and kinda shrill so I wanted to improve what I was hearing. I added a 2tb network hard drive to my home network to store all my music on and started running Squeeze Server on my laptop. Doing this gave me much better sound, closer to my analogue rig.
In a nutshell though... You can not go wrong with the Touch, $300.00 well spent!
Brian
