If I sit in the hot seat, I use SACDs if possible (although the SCD-XA5400ES is good with redbook too).
The SB server software on the Mac/PC is a bit flakey in terms of caching artwork, especially because iTunes is not too tidy about organizing data for interpretation by the Squeezebox Server. The latest update was a fiasco due to under-the-hood code rewrites; I tested for many nights before it was working again adequately. It still can end up with albums split in two, or without artwork. Almost all were attributable to issues that iTunes tolerates (multiple artwork, missing or different art in different tracks of the same album, and other differences among tracks of an album). I would hope that, starting from scratch to rip your CDs and following a careful and reproducible process, you be able to avoid these issues... or encounter it on each and every CDDB download!
I love using iPeng on my iPhone as a remote control.
Adding a DAC is a nice upgrade path. Plus, there are so many of them that SW and FW will likely be available even if Logitech drops it.
