As much as I LOVE my SBT, and I have gone on record here saying it is the biggest bargain in digital audio, it is NOT better than my Naim CD player.
In direct comparisons, using it with high quality outboard DAC units, the CD5 XS beats it every time. But this is comparing a $3500 player witha $250 playback device.
I do agree the SBT will be as good or better than just about any "budget" CD player, and there are some good ones from Marantz, Cambridge Audio, Audiolab, Onkyo, and Rega.
