Besides low-latency, the definition of RT is predictable and deterministic. I am trying to see how much of all 3 can be achieved because of my intended final use cases. I want to eliminate any intermittent, unexpected long poles in the tent messing with convolution and FIR filter generation.
I have avoided PIs so far because multi-channel convolution requires more iron.
I tend to agree that once you reach a certain threshold, the SQ will probably not change. That threshold is the primary goal, but eliminating the random unexpected is also of concern.
As for latency, 20-30ms latency variance equates to @ 20-30 feet variance in time alignments where 0.1ms equates to @ 1 inch variance. That is a difference of 40Hz and 12kHz.

I am sure filter tools attempt to compensate for this, but also assume a 300X lower variance would make measurements more accurate from the get-go.
