You can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. Microsoft offered Windows 10 for free "for a year" when it was released. The stopped offering it in the media, but if you have a valid Windows 7 or Windows 8 license you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free from the Microsoft website.

I have upgraded our 3 household computers and assisted three friends do this as well.

It is very straight forward and works like a champ. Make sure you back up your pictures and data first!!!
