If you don't have your data on at least three separate hard drives, and at most two of them ever connected to the same computer at one time, then you should expect to lose all of your data. (For example, if you just have two drives and you are backing one up with the other and your computer gets a power zap or has some kind of bad glitch it can trash both of your drives. Ditto for malware...)If your drive does fail, there is a chance that some of the data on it can be recovered by a data recovery service. However, these people charge big bucks and are not always successful. Considering the cost of hard drives, this is not the way to go....
